Perhaps At Another Time...

Alas, I was supposed to be in Tibet right now, but my trip got cancelled as a result of the protests a few weeks ago. Until I am able to try to go another time, I can at least explore and learn more about the art of the Himalayas at Himalayan Art Resources, a wealth of images and information!

Mary Scrimgeour Caught My Eye in Boulder

...at least her colorful, textured work did. I spotted one of her piecees in the window of Art & Soul Gallery in Boulder, CO recently and marched right in to see the entire collection. I would love to know the story behind each creation of Mary Scrimgeour and see one from start to finish.

"As I make my journey in the world I record what I see in notebooks and then translate my recordings into images and stories that I give back to the world.
Taking my cue from my father, an inventor and industrial designer, as well as Leonardo da Vinci, I am extremely influenced by the notebooks of designers and inventors; the thought process and what that looks like on paper or canvas. Whether a bowl, a car, a flying machine or a work table -- how these all came about is what fascinates me.
As much as my father got my creative juices flowing my mother's sense of story filled my imagination with thoughts of little characters and magical villages where everything was cozy and good. This is what feeds my desire to create images and stories for children." -Mary Scrimgeour Artist Statement
Always Makes Me Smile
My friend Outi Harma has some lovely creations available on Etsy and at Ten Women Gallery in Venice; she also recently started a blog so you can stay updated on the latest & greatest.
"Outi Harma has been a successful artist in Los Angeles for over ten years. She has been a designer for Prosperity Tree International, creating lines of ceramics that sell all over the world.
A longtime member of Ten Women an artist co-op store in Venice, Outi’s imagery has reached far beyond the canvas to grace such materials as ceramics, fabrics, furniture, and greeting cards.
In the last few years, Outi has brought her focus back to paintings, creating exciting new realms that merge the visible and invisible worlds. Also reflected in her work are her years of exploration in dance and performance art, bringing to her paintings an exceptional fluidity and emotion.
Originally from Lapland, Finland, Outi’s move to the warm, multicultural city of L.A. was what originally catapulted her into a freedom of expression that has been the basis for her art ever since." -Outi Art website
P.S. They sold out in about five minutes
...but I couldn't resist posting about them anyway. My dear friend Marisa Haedike posted these on her daily painting blog this week and - poof! - they were gone. She is taking requests for her next round though, read more about it here.
Marisa Haedike: I Totally Know Her

I sometimes feel like a shameless name dropper, but I can't help being proud of my friends and creative soulmates! That is my friend Marisa Haedike in the photo, with canvas prints of her artwork at Anthropologie. Marisa and I first met and started spending time together when she was just starting her Daily Painting project and podcasts, and I have since seen her work and business explode.
