Words + Food

This photo only offers a tiny glimpse of the delightful way Marije Vogelzang juxtaposes delicious creations with words, some of which she stamps onto plates and with squid ink and chocolate. Tables are covered with scatterings of sea salt and poppy seeds, messages are on cakes and it is easy to imagine the passionate exuberance with which she approaches her work. From a recent article about her restaurant:
"Here the concept involves pushing the boundaries of serving and creating dishes. Described as ‘a crossover between pure food and food design’, ‘food designer’ Maria Vogelzang has moulded her food philosophy into a way of living. Vogelzang’s creative drive behind her dishes lies in her ability to look beyond the food itself and to see all factors relating to it, right down to the sound of food itself and the effects of the ingredients on the body – this is looking at food right down to its cellular core."
I just might have to start playing with big scrolls of blank paper on my dining room table...
